I've dabbled in almost every art form, but the common 'thread' has always been fabric. I watched my mother quilt for years and decided to follow in her footsteps. My first quilt was a tribute to a much loved cat and I became hooked on quilting. In the beginning I relied on patterns, followed by reading books on landscape quilts. This is where I found my passion. My initial quiltscapes were garden scenes, mountains, seascapes and forests, then expanded to family homes from a photograph.
Often, I see a fabric in a store and it becomes the inspiration for a project. Sometimes at night when I can't sleep, I get up and hunt through my fabric stash. A new idea emerges as I combine different fabrics and a new quiltscape is born. If I have a fabric but it's the wrong color, I add a watercolor wash until it matches the color in my mind's eye. My signature style generally includes vivid colors, shimmering fabrics as light sources and the incorporation of yarn and ribbon for texture. I am able to personalize a picture in size and color to coordinate with an existing decor.
Quilting gives me enormous pleasure as well as food for my creative spirit. It's a great way to unwind and I do my best thinking when fabric is scattered all over the room.
